A Word From Georganna
Hi, guys. I want to share my experiences on this blog about Van Life and what I am learning. First off, lets go back to us living in Texas to the day Robby asked me about living in a van. 7 months ago, on a beautiful sunny morning, Robby came home from the gym, and before he even said good morning, he said, "wanna live in a van?" My first words, "I may kill you in a small space." HA!! not that funny. I thought he was kidding or going through a phase. I mean, we all dream and go through phases. After I looked into it, ( on instagram ) I decided, " hey, this might be cool, I love photography, hiking, and traveling." but one BIG problem, I have never camped, EVER, we can come back to this subject\problem later. So, naturally we started telling all our friends and family about this idea. No one discouraged us, which was surprising to me. It was nice and refreshing. I will say this, in all honesty, I was wanting to do something fun and spontaneous with Robby, especially before we have kids. This opportunity came about and it just made sense to get uncomfortable for once in my life and do it!! This is without a doubt, the most interesting thing I've done in my life, besides go to Disney three times in one year. So why not? After talking about it with Robby, we started to seriously take action. First things first, get a van. We can't say we are doing "Van Life" without a van. We did look into buying used vans, but the market is so crazy. Anytime a van would be available, it sold immediately. Robby decided it would be best to go Ford and order a van exactly the way we want it. As soon as we placed an order and deposit for a 2021 Ford Transit Van, it got real. Now the next step, almost selling everything we own, and the house we bought only a year ago. It was hard to depart from "stuff" and I call it "stuff" because I have learned, I don't need it. Good things do come from learning and changing your mentality. There are more important things in life than having stuff. Ok, enough preaching from me. Moving on. Selling our house was easy. Let me clarify, the selling part. Leaving our community and friends was one of the hardest moments I've ever experienced. My heart aches knowing what we left behind in Texas. The encouraging part is, we can always go back and visit. And we will. Another encouragement is, you can build community everywhere you go. I have realized this next chapter of our life will not be easy, and it will have challenges, but one thing I do know without a doubt is, God is in control. I truly trust and put my faith in God. I also trust Robby in leading us in this new crazy life style because remember, I have never camped. So let me talk about that. Does it freak me out a little?...well...yeah. I do think it is going to be fun, but instagram makes it look fun. I will do my best to take you along the entire way...it may be comical to you guys who are reading and watching on our YouTube channel. After moving away from Texas, we stayed in Memphis, TN for a month to enjoy Thanksgiving, traveling to Disneyland in Cali, and celebrate Christmas and New Years with our families. While we were in Disneyland, Dwayne from the Ford dealership called Robby to let him know our van was ready for pick up. We ordered our van in June 2021, and it was ready in December 2021. Just a timeline for you. It took 6 months. The 6 months was a blessing, it gave us time to decide on important future decisions, Robby got a new job with amazon, and we were able to enjoy more time with our Texas friends. Fast ford, we are currently now in Kentucky staying with Robby's extending family. Cindy and Chris are awesome. They are allowing us to take over their house and barn. LOL not really, we are respectful of their property. We are so grateful. The barn on their property is awesome and perfect to drive the van inside and work in a heated environment. Now we are up to date. We finished Day 1 of the van project last night. We installed Kilmat noise dampening pads on the left side of the van. We have the ceiling, right side, and the floor to accomplish later today. We are excited for our friends and family to follow along this journey with us. I can't wait to make new memories with Robby during this season of our life.
